Established in July of 2007, the Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy Marine Corps Junior Officers Training Corps ( MCJROTC) consists of approximately 100 cadets. Located on the west side of Chicago.
The Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy MCJROTC is an academic course of instruction, which combines the advantage of military leadership with those of secondary education. The curriculum is designed to educate the cadets on Marine Corps history, philosophy, and its contribution to the nation. Additionally, students learn more about U.S. and World History by exploring the past of the United States Marine Corps.
The main focus of the MCJROTC Program is its’ endeavor to promote leadership, self-discipline, self-esteem, and pride to the students of Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy. Through the different cadet units, they learn how to interact through a “ chain of command “, perform drill techniques, and Marine dress. Through their actions in the units the student cadets attain more responsibilities, earning JROTC rank and a sense of accomplishment.
The student cadets also benefit from working in a team environment. The structure of the unit shows them how a group of individuals can work together to accomplish goals. Also, the student cadets get a feeling that they belong to a group of people striving for the same things and believing in the same values. These are things that are missing in many students lives. The Rowe-Clark MCJROTC Program's success can be attributed to the fact that it provides a team feeling to the student cadets.
